1. A method comprising:
receiving, by a session management node, from a user equipment (UE), a request for establishing a data traffic session over a fourth generation (4G) or fifth generation (4G/5G) wireless network;
determining, by the session management node, that the data traffic session is associated with bandwidth prioritization;
responsive to determining that the data traffic session is associated with bandwidth prioritization, identifying a subset of packet routing nodes in the 4G/5G wireless network that have higher bandwidth capacities than other packet routing nodes in the 4G/5G wireless network;
selecting a first packet routing node for the data traffic session from the subset of packet routing nodes having the higher bandwidth capacity; and
establishing the data traffic session for the UE through the first packet routing node.
