1. A battery electrode composition, comprising:
a composite particle comprising:
an active fluoride-comprising material provided to store and release ions during battery operation; and
an electrically-conductive scaffolding matrix within which the active fluoride-comprising material is disposed, wherein the scaffolding matrix is comprised of over about 90% sp2-bonded carbon atoms.
