1. A head-mountable apparatus, comprising:
an occlusion matrix comprising a plurality of actively addressed dimmable pixels, wherein said matrix is capable of passing through light from a real world and wherein said pixels are capable of seamlessly dimming said light across a range of at least 20 percent of luminous transmission;
a virtual screen emitter, wherein said emitter is configured to project a virtual screen into a field of view of a user of said apparatus;
and an occlusion matrix controller, wherein said controller is configurable for dimming said light on a line of sight by said user to said virtual screen at a first dimming level and for dimming said light not on a line of sight by said user to said virtual screen at a second dimming level, and wherein the first dimming level is of a higher magnitude than the second dimming level.
