1. An apparatus for mounting to a front part of a length of a barrel, the barrel including 1) a muzzle and 2) an egress in the front part, the apparatus comprising:
a barrel-mountable part comprising at least one compensation port including an egress-fed port to receive gas expelled from the egress, the barrel-mountable part including:
a back end having an opening, wherein the opening of the back end includes a section arranged to fit around the front part of the barrel; and
an attachment interface comprising a fastener opening, wherein a portion of the attachment interface is 1) located underneath the egress-fed port, or 2) located closer to the muzzle than at least a portion of the egress-fed port; and
a fastener insertable into the fastener opening of the barrel-mountable part, wherein 1) a portion of the fastener is non-threaded and 2) includes a curved face arranged to lockup with a portion of the front part of the barrel, so as to restrict both a rotational orientation and a fore/aft positioning of the barrel-mountable part relative to the egress.
