1. A lighting device comprising:
a heat sink comprising a mounting area;
a main board mounted to the mounting area of the heat sink, the main board comprising a top surface and a recess as a cutout which may serve to provide a free area for a light-emitting diode (LED) assembly,
wherein the light-emitting diode (LED) assembly is mounted to the mounting area within the recess of the main board, the LED assembly completely exposed from the top surface of the main board, the LED assembly comprising at least one emitter and spaced apart from inside surfaces of the main board within the recess and forming a gap between 10-500 μm;
an electrical circuit disposed on the top surface of the main board, the electrical circuit configured to control the at least one emitter of the LED assembly; and
an electrical connection provided between the LED assembly and the electrical circuit via an electrical conductor.
