1. A method, comprising:
receiving a first sound signal at a first sound input device located at a first ear of a recipient of a hearing device system;
receiving a second sound signal at a second sound input device located at a second ear of the recipient of the hearing device system;
determining a first parameter indicative of a quality of the first sound signal;
determining a second parameter indicative of a quality of the second sound signal;
selecting only one of either the first sound signal or the second sound signal as a selected signal, wherein the selected signal is a one of the first sound signal or the second sound signal having a highest quality as indicated by the first and second parameters; and
generating stimulation signals capable of causing a hearing percept based only on the selected signal.
