1. A method for deep discharge of a battery cell including two electrodes and an electrolyte positioned between the two electrodes, at least one of the two electrodes including at least one acidified metal oxide nanomaterial selected from the group consisting of an acidified oxide of tin, an acidified oxide of iron, an acidified oxide of manganese, and acidified oxide of titanium, the method comprising:
executing a plurality of charge cycles and discharge cycles on the battery cell where a discharge level of each discharge cycle is less than 20% of a full capacity of the battery cell;
wherein each discharge cycle results in a loss of total available capacity of the battery cell of less than 0.3%; and
wherein the electrolyte remains positioned between the two electrodes during the plurality of charge cycles and discharge cycles on the battery cell.
