1. A tamper resistant nightlight comprising:
a body having a base and a translucent cover disposed over the base, and at least one light positioned between the base and the cover;
a locking element extending away from an edge of the body, wherein the locking element is configured to couple with an electrical wall plate and restrict a child from removing the body from an electrical receptacle, and wherein the locking element is configured as a flange that extends away from the body such that a distal edge of the flange is configured to be positioned behind a rear surface of the electrical wall plate when the body is installed on the electrical receptacle, wherein the locking element is formed as a separate ring that is sized to engage around the body and leave at least a portion of the translucent cover exposed;
plug blades coupled to the at least one light and configured to electrically couple with the electrical receptacle through the body; and
a touch-sensitive selector switch operatable from a surface of the translucent cover.
