1. A method comprising:
receiving, over a network, from at least one wireless device, a capability report identifying wireless device uplink capabilities;
determining uplink capabilities for the network;
identifying matching network uplink capabilities and wireless device uplink capabilities;
receiving a channel state information (CSI) report from the wireless device identifying radio frequency (RF) parameters for the wireless device;
evaluating the RF parameters for the wireless device based on the CSI report; and
selecting an uplink technology for the wireless device from the matching uplink capabilities for the network and the wireless device based on the RF parameters for the wireless device in order to optimize functionality of the wireless device by maximizing throughput for the wireless device and in order to maximize network spectral efficiency.
