1. A power transfer system comprising:
a patient transport apparatus comprising:
a support structure having a base and a patient support surface for a patient;
an energy storage device;
a power receiver coupled to the energy storage device; and
wheels coupled to the support structure to facilitate transport of the patient transport apparatus over a floor surface and relative to a wall surface;
a power transfer device comprising a controller and a power transmitter coupled to the controller and configured to deliver power from a power source to the power receiver;
an alignment system arranged to align the power transmitter and the power receiver when a user moves the patient transport apparatus over the floor surface on the wheels and relative to the wall surface so that the power transmitter is capable of transferring power to the power receiver, wherein the power transmitter is configured to remain fixed from movement during such alignment; and
a sensor configured to sense charging activity of the power receiver during power transfer and wherein the controller is configured to analyze signals from the sensor and to modify operational parameters of the power transmitter to account for sensed charging activity of the power receiver.
