1. A method comprising:
receiving images captured by an imaging device, wherein the imaging device has a field of view;
detecting a movement of one or more objects over a period of time based on the images captured by the imaging device;
identifying a movement pattern of the one or more objects based at least in part on the detected movement of the one or more objects over the period of time;
after identifying the movement pattern of the one or more objects over the period of time, automatically defining an area of interest in the field of view of the imaging device based at least in part on the detected movement pattern; and
providing a motion alert when motion is subsequently detected in the automatically defined area of interest.
