1. An electrochromic device comprising:
an electrochromic layer of active electrochromic components dissolved in a polymer matrix, wherein the electrochromic layer comprises an electrochromic composition comprising a cathodic component in the form of a quaternary salt of dipyridine, an anodic component, a polymeric thickener, a solvent, and a reaction accelerator, wherein the solvent comprises an ionic liquid.
