1. A candle, comprising:
a base unit and a candle body removably mounted to the base unit;
wherein the candle body comprises a wick and a fibre optic running therethrough; and,
the base unit comprises: a light sensor configured, in use, to detect light emitted from the wick and transmitted via the fibre optic; and,
a light source configured to operate in dependence on detection of light by the light sensor: sensor; and,
a proximity sensor configured, in use, to detect the presence of a candle body mounted to the base unit, wherein the proximity sensor is operable, in use, to: output a control signal for disabling operation of the light source in dependence on the absence of a candle body mounted to the base unit and/or output a control signal for enabling operation of the light source in dependence on the presence of a candle body mounted to the base unit.
