1. A method for promoting bone formation, comprising locally administering a composition comprising an OGFR antagonist selected from the group consisting of naloxone, naltrexone, and a salt thereof, and a carrier to a site of bone injury or a bone site of surgical intervention in a subject in need thereof in an amount effective to produce a 1.53-fold increase in Bv/Tv at the site of bone injury or the bone site of surgical intervention in the subject when administered in a single, local administration compared to a single, local administration of the same carrier without an OGFR antagonist.
