1. A functionalized elastomer comprising the reaction product of a living anionic elastomeric polymer and a polymerization terminator of formula (1)

where R1 is C1 to C6 alkane diyl; and n is an integer from 0 to 1;
when n=0, Y is C1 to C12 alkyl;
when n=1, R2 is C1-C12 alkyl or Cl, where Cl is chlorine;
further when n=1,
Y is C1 to C12 alkyl; and X is C1-C12 alkyl, Cl, or X is of structure (2)

where R3 is C1-C6 alkane diyl, R4 is C1-C12 alkyl, or Cl; R5 is C1-C6 alkane diyl; and Z is C1-C12 alkyl;
alternatively when n=1,
Y is a covalent bond and X and Y taken together with a second Si atom form a ring structure to give a compound of formula (3)
