1. A method for modulating activity of a live neuronal circuit within a brain of a mammal, the method comprising:
generating a focused microwave pulse (FMWP), the FMWP including an electrical field component and a magnetic field component, where the electric field component at a center of the FMWP is minimized;
applying the FMWP to a focal spot corresponding to the live neuronal circuit, to activate or inhibit the live neuronal circuit, the magnetic field component affecting the live neuronal circuit to modulate activity of the live neuronal circuit and where the electrical field component does not; and
monitoring a brain image produced by a brain imaging system during the application of the FMWP.
