1. A method for displaying images by a projection system, the projection system comprising a beam-steering spatial light modulator, the beam-steering spatial light modulator being configured to selectively steer light to form an image on a predetermined location, the method comprising:
receiving image data indicative of at least one image to be displayed; and
generating beam-steering drive values for driving a beam-steering spatial light modulator based at least in part on the image data, wherein generating the beam-steering drive values includes:
generating a mathematical description of a wavefield corresponding to a desired image at the predetermined location,
backward-propagating the wavefield to generate a mathematical description of the wavefield at the beam-steering spatial light modulator,
filtering, with a filter, the mathematical description of the wavefield at the beam-steering spatial light modulator, wherein the filter is configured to block DC-frequency light, and
forward-propagating the filtered mathematical description of the wavefield to generate a mathematical description of a new wavefield at the predetermined location, and
driving the beam-steering spatial light modulator with the beam-steering drive values.
