1. A method for determining user liveness comprising the steps of:
capturing, by one of a plurality of illumination devices, image data of a biometric modality of a user while any combination of the illumination devices is operated across different wavelengths and at different times to apply illumination to the biometric modality, the illumination devices being located at different positions relative to the biometric modality;
transmitting via the network, by the one illumination device, the captured image data to a computer;
recognizing reflections in the captured image data, the reflections resulting from the applied illumination; and
determining the captured image data was taken of a live person based on the reflections.
