1. A method for controlling a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) comprising a pump, comprising:
obtaining, via a transducer, a precordial sound recording including at least a first sound component corresponding to a heart and a second sound component corresponding to the LVAD;
filtering, via a processor, at least a portion of the second sound component from the precordial sound recording to yield a filtered precordial sound recording;
determining, via the processor, based on the filtered precordial sound recording, a presence or absence of at least one acoustic biomarker, the at least one acoustic biomarker comprising a pulse synchronized sound (PSS) acoustic biomarker associated with the LVAD during one or more periodic rotational speed oscillations of the pump;
adjusting, via the processor, a rotational speed of the pump in response to the at least one acoustic biomarker being absent; and
repeating the steps of obtaining, filtering, determining, and adjusting until the at least one acoustic biomarker is present.
