1. A surgical stapling assembly, comprising:
a handle, comprising:
a motor;
a closure trigger; and
a firing trigger;
a shaft;
an end effector, comprising:
a first jaw;
a second jaw movable relative to said first jaw upon actuation of said closure trigger;
an anvil; and
a replaceable staple cartridge configured to be removably positioned within said end effector, wherein said replaceable staple cartridge comprises:
a firing member movable through a firing stroke upon actuation of said firing trigger;
a plurality of staples removably stored within said staple cartridge, wherein said plurality of staples are configured to be deployed from said replaceable staple cartridge upon distal advancement of said firing member;
an onboard memory comprising a cartridge identifier, wherein said onboard memory is readable to determine a status of said replaceable staple cartridge; and
a spent status circuit transitionable between an unspent configuration and a spent configuration; and
a control circuit configured to:
read said onboard memory to determine that said status of said replaceable staple cartridge is unspent;
identify said cartridge identifier;
detect said distal advancement of said firing member from an unfired position;
transition said status of said replaceable staple cartridge from unspent to spent based on said detection of said distal advancement of said firing member from said unfired position;
determine the configuration of said spent status circuit independently of said onboard memory; and
control a state of the motor based on the identified cartridge identifier, the determined configuration of said spent status circuit, and the determined status of said replaceable staple cartridge.
