1. A method for wireless communication at a network device, comprising:
transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), a control message comprising a grant for a downlink transmission;
performing, during a gap that extends from an end of the control message to a beginning of the downlink transmission, a clear channel assessment (CCA) procedure that fully occupies the gap on a shared radio frequency spectrum band associated with the downlink transmission; and
performing, in accordance with a success of the CCA procedure, the downlink transmission to the UE over the shared radio frequency spectrum band.
