1. A communication system, comprising:
a transmitter operable to output a first plurality of optical subcarriers and control information; and
a receiver operable to receive a second plurality of optical subcarriers including the first plurality of optical subcarriers and the control information, wherein a bandwidth associated with the receiver is greater than a bandwidth associated with the transmitter, the receiver including:
fast Fourier transform circuitry that generates frequency domain data;
circuitry operable to selectively null a first portion of the frequency domain data; and
inverse fast Fourier transform circuitry that outputs time domain data based on a second portion of the frequency domain data.
