               1. A method for driving an electro-optic display having a plurality of display pixels, wherein the electro-optic display includes an electrophoretic material having at least one type of colored pigment particle in a fluid disposed between a common electrode and pixel electrodes associated with each display pixel, the method comprising:
            applying at least one first pulse pair to the plurality of display pixels to reset the at least one type of colored pigment particle;
                applying a separation pulse having a constant voltage amplitude to the plurality of display pixels to drive the plurality of display pixels toward an extreme optical state, wherein a duration of the separation pulse is not long enough to drive the plurality of display pixels to the extreme optical state; and
                applying at least one second pulse pair to the plurality of display pixels to reset the at least one type of colored pigment particle, and thereby produce the at least one type of colored pigment particle in a mixed state in the fluid, wherein the at least one second pulse pair includes a pulse having a positive amplitude and a pulse having a negative amplitude,
                wherein the pulse having the positive amplitude and the pulse having the negative amplitude have the same duration,
                wherein the at least one second pulse pair is DC balanced, and wherein the separation pulse is the only pulse between the at least one first pulse pair and the at least one second pulse pair,
                wherein the separation pulse has a constant negative polarity for the duration of the separation pulse.
