1. A method, comprising: controlling flow of a single component gas to a vessel so that so that the gas adsorbs to an adsorbent within an interior of the vessel; after a predetermined pressure of the single component gas within the interior of the vessel is reached, stopping the flow of the single component gas to the vessel; determining an amount of the single component gas adsorbed to the adsorbent at the predetermined pressure; during the controlling step, using a mass flow controller to control the flow of the single component gas so that the flow has a Deborah number of at most one and measuring the pressure within the interior of the vessel; and repeatedly performing the controlling, stopping and determining steps to provide data comprising a plurality of determined Gibbs excess amounts of adsorption of the single component gas on the adsorbent, wherein the single component gas comprises methane.
