1. A method for controlling a sensor assembly comprising:
a) providing a sensor assembly having a plurality of same type sensors;
b) operating a first variable number of same type sensors in an active state, wherein the first variable number of same type sensors are not experiencing anomalies or faults and are greater than one such that output from a plurality of active sensors is combined;
c) operating a second variable number of same type sensors in an inactive state; and
d) changing an activation state of at least one of the plurality of sensors based at least in part on an operational parameter, wherein the operational parameter relates to an environmental condition differentially affecting the plurality of same type sensors.
