1. A method comprising:
determining that a non-volatile memory device comprising dies including planes of blocks of non-volatile memory cells includes an incomplete superblock of memory cells;
selecting, from the blocks of non-volatile memory cells, a source block in a first plane for a memory management operation;
selecting a destination block in a second plane;
determining the destination block in the second plane is in the incomplete superblock;
responsive to the determining that the destination block is in the incomplete superblock, selecting a metadata block in a third plane;
storing metadata indicative of an address of the source block in the metadata block; and
performing the memory management operation to transfer data from the source block to the destination block.
