1. An advisory system for operating a vessel, comprising:
at least one system configured to operate the vessel;
a plurality of sensors configured to sense variables of the at least one system, the variables representative of functional parameters of the at least one system;
at least one processor in communication with the at least one system and the sensors, and configured to:
identify a change in values of a first variable over a time period;
in response to determining the change in values of the first variable, correlate the first variable with a second variable that has a change in values over at least a portion of the time period;
communicate a notification inclusive of the first and second variables and change in values thereof to an operator, the notification enabling the operator to indicate whether or not the first and second variables correlate with one another;
in response to receiving an indication from the operator that the first and second variables do not correlate with one another, correlate the first variable with a third variable that has a change in values over at least a portion of the time period; and
in response to receiving an indication from the operator that the first and third variables correlate with one another:
store an indicator indicative of the first and third variables being correlated with one another,
otherwise, store an indicator of the first and third variable not being correlated with one another.
