1. A method for treating oxidative damage to cells in a subject in need thereof, wherein the method comprises orally administering to the subject at least one peptide selected from the group consisting of (i) the amino acid sequence γ-Glu-Xaa1 or γ-Glu-Xaa2-Xaa3, and (ii) the amino acid sequence γ-Glu-Gln-Glu;
wherein
Xaa1 is any one amino acid selected from histidine (H), glutamine (Q), or isoleucine (I);
Xaa2 is any one amino acid selected from threonine (T) or valine (V), and
wherein when Xaa2 is threonine (T), Xaa3 is glycine (G),
wherein when Xaa2 is valine (V), Xaa3 is any one amino acid selected from cysteine (C), aspartic acid (D), glutamic acid (E), phenylalanine (F), methionine (M), asparagine (N), proline (P), glutamine (Q), and arginine (R); and
wherein the subject is human or animal.
