1. A method, comprising:
receiving first digital image data representing an image of a first region of a physical object positioned within view of a scanner;
processing, by at least one processor, the first digital image data to locate an anchor region in the first region of the first digital image data;
assessing, by the at least one processor, a first quality metric of the first digital image data of the located anchor region;
in response to the first quality metric failing to satisfy a defined threshold:
receiving re-imaged first digital image data of the located anchor region or providing instructions for capture of second digital image data of the located anchor region;
assessing, by the at least one processor, a second quality metric of at least one of the re-imaged first digital image data of the located anchor region or the second digital image data of the located anchor region; and
in response to the second quality metric satisfying the defined threshold, accessing a reference datastore based on data of the anchor region to obtain second offset information that locates at least one authentication region in the re-imaged first digital image data of the located anchor region or in the second digital image data of the located anchor region;
identifying, by the at least one processor, the at least one authentication region in the re-imaged first digital image data or in the second digital image data based on the second offset information; and
in response to the at least one authentication region being identified, authenticating, by the at least one processor, the physical object based on information extracted from the at least one authentication region of the re-imaged first digital image data or the second digital image data.
