1. A method for registering image data with anatomy of a patient, the method comprising:
capturing, via an imaging system, image data of patient anatomy for a period of time;
determining, via a tracking system, position data of the patient anatomy relative to the imaging system by tracking the position of the patient anatomy and imaging system during the period of time that the image data is being captured;
tracking, via the tracking system, an imaging system tracker coupled to the imaging system and a patient tracker coupled to the patient, wherein the position data is based on locations of the imaging system tracker and locations of the patient tracker during the period of time;
averaging the position data over the period of time to determine an average position of the patient anatomy relative to the imaging system; and
registering the image data with the patient anatomy based on the position data;
wherein the position data used to register the image data with the patient anatomy is the average position of the patient anatomy.
