1. An automated computer-implemented method for controlling a computer numerically controlled milling machine to fabricate an object having a semi-open region from a workpiece, the method comprising:
estimating, using a computer, a first machining time for machining said semi-open region using a trochoidal type tool path;
estimating, using a computer, a second machining time for machining said semi-open region using a spiral type tool path;
automatically selecting, using a computer, an optimal tool path having a shorter machining time, said shorter machining time being the shorter of said first machining time and said second machining time; and
machining said workpiece by directing a computer controlled machine tool using said optimal tool path.
