1. A method of measuring a spectacle lens, without spectacle frame which otherwise obscures lens edge, using a printed image background comprising a predetermined area and colors with a predetermined pattern and colors of computer readable markers providing scale and relative position data, as well as contrast needed for measurement by computer vision routines, the method comprising:
a) Placing a spectacle lens on the said image background;
b) Capturing an image of the spectacle lens and the said image background;
c) Using computer vision routines on the captured image to measure at least one of the entire shape of the spectacle lens, its dimensions and its features;
d) Recording the measurements in a format ready for a lens production system and/or an edging apparatus.
