1. An apparatus, comprising:
an external resonant circuit comprising an external coil;
one or more driver bridges configured to cause the external coil to transfer power and data to an implantable receiver circuit using separate power and data time slots, wherein the one or more driver bridges comprise at least one data driver bridge that is used to drive the external coil during the data time slots and at least one power driver bridge that is used to drive the external coil during the power time slots; and
at least one circuit comprising at least a first resistance and at least a first inductance connected between a first output of the at least one data driver bridge and the external resonant circuit;
wherein the at least one power driver bridge is connected to the external resonant circuit so as to bypass the at least one circuit, and
wherein a quality factor of the external resonant circuit is controlled to be lower during the data slots than during the power time slots by de-tuning the external resonant circuit using the at least one circuit.
