19 Claims

1. A method for producing polyol esters of at least one of 3-hydroxybutyric acid and acylated 3-hydroxybutyric acid,

wherein at least one compound of the general formula (I)

CH₃—CH(OR¹)—CH₂—C(O)—O—C(O)—CH₂—CH(OR¹)—CH₃ (I)

wherein, in the general formula (I), the radical R¹represents an acyl group selected from an acetyl group of formula —C(O)—CH₃and a propionyl group of formula —C(O)—C₂H₅,

is reacted with at least one polyol (II) comprising at least two hydroxyl groups, optionally followed by hydrolysis of the acyl groups,

so that, as a reaction product (III), one or more polyol esters of at least one of 3-hydroxybutyric acid and acylated 3-hydroxybutyric acid are obtained.
