1. A method of mapping ports in a passive optical network, the method comprising:
bending, manually on a fixed groove within a housing of a non-instrument mechanical tool, an optical fiber at a port of a passive component of the passive optical network to cause signal leakage at a bent portion of the optical fiber;
receiving indications of power losses at downstream and or upstream components caused by the signal leakage; and
mapping at least one downstream component to the port based on the received indications of the power losses.
