1. A system, comprising:
a communication interface; and
a processor coupled to the communication interface and configured to:
monitor an activity stream comprising communication messages received via the communication interface, the communication messages between and amongst a plurality of users collaborating in a workflow;
detect a workflow tag in one of the communication messages, the workflow tag comprising a reference to the workflow and a workflow application-level command associated with an operation to be performed in response to the application-level command;
in response to detecting the workflow tag, identifying the workflow and performing the operation associated with the workflow application-level command;
detect an event associated with a currently executing workflow;
in response to detecting the event associated with the currently executing workflow, insert a tag associated with the detected event into the activity stream; and
wherein the workflow tag is generated by one of the collaborating users issuing a command corresponding to the workflow.
