1. A method for tuning a power characteristic of an optical frequency comb, the method comprising:
(a) controlling at least an intensity of a light source to generate an optical frequency comb including a plurality of optical tones;
(b) changing at least the intensity of the light source until a total power of the plurality of optical tones is greater than or equal to a minimum threshold value;
(c) generating a respective target power of each optical tone of the plurality of optical tones based on one or more characteristics of a respective communication network branch associated with the optical tone, at least two of the respective target powers of the plurality of optical tones being different from each other; and
(d) changing at least the intensity of the light source until respective powers of the plurality of optical tones are within a predetermined proximity to the respective target powers of the plurality of optical tones, at least partially by changing at least the intensity of the light source until a coefficient of variation is less than or equal to a maximum permissible coefficient of variation, the coefficient of variation expressing an extent that measured powers of the plurality of optical tones vary from the respective target powers of the plurality of optical tones.
