1. A method comprising:
retrieving, from a memory, one or more spectra produced as a result of mass analyzing a sample;
performing peak detection to identify one or more peaks in the one or more spectra;
generating one or more peak properties on the one or more peaks; and
writing the one or more peaks into a peak list in a memory and writing the peak properties information to the memory,
wherein the retrieving and writing are configured to be performed by code executing in a serial processor and wherein the performing peak detection and generating one or more peak properties are configured to be performed by code executing in a parallel processor.
