1. An electronic gaming device comprising:
at least one memory with instructions stored thereon; and
at least one processor in communication with the at least one memory, wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
cause display of a plurality of reel strips as spinning for an electronic game, the plurality of reel strips comprising a first reel strip, a second reel strip, a third reel strip, a fourth reel strip, and a fifth reel strip;
cause display of a first plurality of symbols by causing the first reel strip to stop spinning;
replace at least one symbol on the third reel strip with at least one upgrade symbol in response to the first plurality of symbols including a trigger symbol;
cause display of a second plurality of symbols by causing the second reel strip to stop spinning;
cause display of a third plurality of symbols by causing the third reel strip to stop spinning;
replace at least one symbol on the fifth reel strip with another at least one upgrade symbol in response to the third plurality of symbols including another trigger symbol;
cause display of a fourth plurality of symbols by causing the fourth reel strip to stop spinning; and
cause display of a fifth plurality of symbols by causing the fifth reel strip to stop spinning.
