1. A computing system, comprising:
at least one processor; and
at least one memory device having processor-executable instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by the at least one processor, cause the computing system to:
access a control sequence that directs execution of an automation task involving an automation system and one or more sensor devices functionally coupled to an automation subsystem of the automation system;
generate, based on the control sequence, respective virtual connections for the one or more sensor devices;
generate first data by executing the control sequence, the first data representing output signal from at least one sensor device of the one or more sensor devices; and
pass the first data to a second control sequence that directs operation of the automation subsystem.
