1. A method comprising:
determining, by a processor, a current state of an information handling system;
receiving a sensor output signal from a sensor;
in response to detecting a status change with the sensor output signal:
determining whether the status change of the sensor output signal relates to an expected state based on the current state and a previous state of the information handling system; and
determining whether the sensor output signal is triggered by an external magnet;
when the status change of the sensor output signal relates to the expected state and the sensor output signal is not triggered by the external magnet and a time threshold is met, then transitioning the information handling system from the current state to the expected state; and
when the status change of the sensor output signal does not relate to the expected state and the sensor output signal is triggered by the external magnet and the time threshold is not met, then maintaining the information handling system in the current state.
