1. A method comprising:
obtaining, from a subsurface optical measurement device, a plurality of optical data measurements associated with a subsurface fluid;
performing a comparison of the plurality of optical data measurements associated with the subsurface fluid to one or more sets of optical data stored in an optical data library and one or more sets of data stored in a spectral library, wherein the one or more sets of optical data correspond to a plurality of different fluid samples;
identifying, based on the comparison, a first fluid sample from the plurality of different fluid samples that corresponds to at least a portion of the subsurface fluid;
determining an absorbance spectrum of the subsurface fluid based on the first fluid sample using a matching pursuit algorithm; and
adjusting one or more drilling parameters based on the absorbance spectrum of the subsurface fluid.
