1. A method of making fiberboard or chipboard, the method comprising the steps of:
comminuting vegetable starting material in a first comminutor into loose plant particles and silicate particles;
feeding the plant particles and silicate particles into a first classifier having an air inlet and an air outlet;
generating an air stream in the first classifier by drawing air out of the first classifier through the air outlet;
in the first classifier, air separating silicate particles of a diameter of less than 50 μm from the plant particles by applying the air stream to the particles such that the plant particles fall by gravity in the first classifier and the silicate particles exit the first classifier via the air outlet;
discharging the fallen plant particles from the first classifier below the air outlet;
glue-coating the fallen plant particles; and
compressing the glue-coated plant particles into fiberboard or chipboard.
