1. A surgical stapling assembly, comprising:
a first jaw and a second jaw, wherein at least one of the first jaw or the second jaw is movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration;
a fastener cartridge, comprising
a deck extending distally along a longitudinal axis;
a longitudinal slot defined in the deck and defining a first cartridge side and a second cartridge side;
staple cavities defined in the deck, wherein the staple cavities comprise a series of longitudinally-oriented staple cavities positioned on the first cartridge side and each defining an axis that extends parallel to the longitudinal axis, a series of first obliquely-oriented staple cavities positioned laterally outward of the longitudinally-oriented staple cavities on the first cartridge side and each defining an axis that extends obliquely to the longitudinal axis, and a series of second obliquely-oriented staple cavities positioned laterally outward of the first obliquely-oriented staple cavities on the first cartridge side and each defining an axis that extends obliquely to the longitudinal axis;
staples removably stored in the staple cavities, wherein the staples comprise a longitudinally-oriented staple in each of the longitudinally-oriented staple cavities, a first obliquely-oriented staple in each of the first obliquely-oriented staple cavities, and a second obliquely-oriented staple in each of the second obliquely-oriented staple cavities; and
drivers movably supporting the staples;
an anvil comprising an anvil surface comprising staple forming pockets; and
a proximal tissue stop defining a proximal-most tissue plane extending through the deck and the anvil surface when the first jaw and the second jaw are in the closed configuration, wherein a proximal-most longitudinally-oriented staple, a proximal-most first obliquely-oriented staple, and a proximal-most second obliquely-oriented staple are wholly positioned proximal to the proximal-most tissue plane.
