1. A method of operating a wireless User Equipment (UE) to wirelessly communicate over a frequency channel, the method comprising:
UE circuitry executing a Fifth Generation New Radio (5GNR) Radio Resource Control (RRC), a 5GNR Media Access Control (MAC), and a 5GNR Physical Layer (PHY);
a radio wirelessly receiving an instruction from a Radio Access Network (RAN) to measure a radio signal metric for selected resource blocks in the frequency channel that are selected for radio signal measurement and to avoid measuring the radio signal metric for the unselected resource blocks in the frequency channel that are unselected for the radio signal measurement;
the 5GNR RRC directing the 5GNR PHY to measure the radio signal metric for the selected resource blocks in the frequency channel and avoid measuring the radio signal metric for the unselected resource blocks in the radio frequency channel;
in response to the direction from the 5GNR RRC, the 5GNR PHY wirelessly measuring the radio signal metric for the selected resource blocks in the radio channel and not measuring the radio signal metric for the unselected resource blocks in the radio channel;
the 5GNR RRC generating a measurement report that indicates the radio signal metric for the selected resource blocks;
the radio wirelessly transferring the measurement report to the RAN and in response, wirelessly receiving a schedule for the selected resource blocks in the radio channel from the RAN;
the 5GNR MAC scheduling the radio to transmit and receive based on the schedule; and
the radio wirelessly receiving data from the RAN over the selected resource blocks in the radio channel based on the schedule.
