1. A method for increasing power efficiency in communication systems, the method comprising:
in response to receiving a digital signal that comprises a characteristic, determining whether the characteristic exceeds a threshold corresponding to an increase in a power requirement;
encoding at least some of the digital signal with control information that indicates that the characteristic exceeds the threshold to obtain an encoded signal;
communicating the encoded signal to a driver circuit that decodes the encoded signal and uses the decoded signal to cause an amplifier circuit to increase a power output such as to accommodate the increase in the power requirement; and
in response to determining that the characteristic no longer exceeds the threshold, causing the driver circuit to decrease the power output to conserve energy.
