1. A method comprising:
detecting an active session of a specific application with a source node and a destination node within an overlay environment;
detecting a traffic flow from the source node to the destination node associated with the active session of the specific application across the overlay environment, the traffic flow having encapsulated packets with an overlay header;
mapping the traffic flow to a dedicated service processing thread of a network services appliance, the service processing thread being to serve the specific application and being between the source node and the destination node;
mapping an identifier to the dedicated service processing thread; and
forwarding the traffic flow from the source node to the destination node through the dedicated service processing thread by applying the identifier and a site state of the source node as type length values (TLVs) to the traffic flow in addition to the destination node in the overlay header, wherein the site state indicates a process of the source node converging to a single choice of a dedicated service processing thread with the destination node.
