1. An electrochromic device, comprising a charge balancing thin film, the charge balancing thin film including a vanadium oxide with a formula of VOx,
wherein:
x ranges from 2 to 2.5; and
a coloration efficiency of the charge balancing thin film is less than about 10 cm2 C−1; and a charge density of the charge balancing thin film is greater than about 1 mC/cm2 at a maximum device working voltage.
