6 Claims

1. A glass underside or backplate for personal electronic devices, including mobile or smart phones, comprising:

50 to 65 mol % SiO₂;

10 to 20 mol % Al₂O₃;

1 to 10 mol % B₂O₃;

0 to 8.5 mol % MgO;

0 to 2 mol % ZnO;

0 to 10 mol % P₂O₅;

alkali metal oxides (R₂O), wherein R is selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs; and wherein [R₂O+Al₂O₃+MgO (if present)+ZnO (if present)] is at least 25 mol %; and

colorant dopant(s) including one or more of a group including Au, Ag, Cu, Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, V, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, and Fe, and/or compounds thereof, the colorant dopant(s) comprising Co₃O₄and 0 to 0.01 mol % Fe₂O₃;

wherein the glass is colored such that for CIE Illuminant F02 and 10° Observer, L* is within a range from 36.59 to 89.89, a* from −15.37 to 30.51, and b* from −78.60 to 38.23.
