1. An implant assembly comprising:
a porous metal coating comprising tantalum or an alloy thereof;
a biocompatible implant material;
a polymeric binder layer comprising a polyether ether ketone disposed between the porous metal coating and the biocompatible implant material, wherein a thickness of the porous metal coating is in a range of from about 0.1 μm to about 1,000 μm.
